TasteAtlas has selected the 100 best food travel destinations in the world. From street food gems to culinary traditions, the ranking is a must for anyone who plans their vacation by taste. Vienna is among the top ten.
With 8th place in the current ranking, Vienna proves why it deserves a top position worldwide regarding culinary delights. The Austrian capital leaves cities such as New York (12th place) and Madrid (11th place) in its wake. Whether it’s Wiener Schnitzel, Tafelspitz, Zwiebelrostbraten, or apple strudel, the variety and quality of the dishes score points across the board. The ranking is based on over 477,000 food ratings from 17,000 cities. Vienna’s culinary offerings are complemented by regional producers such as “Noan” (olive oil), the “Wieninger” wines, and the “Ottakringer Brewery.” This mixture of tradition and innovation makes Vienna a top-class food hotspot.
Italy dominates the list with 6 cities
While Vienna shines in the top 10, there is no way around Italy: six Italian cities—including Naples, Milan, Bologna, Florence, Rome, and Turin—are represented. Each of them embodies the diversity of Italian cuisine. Naples delights with pizza, Milan with risotto alla Milanese, and Bologna is the home of tagliatelle al ragù. Florence scores with Bistecca alla Fiorentina, Rome stands for classics such as Carbonara, and Turin impresses with Piedmontese truffles and fine chocolate.
