VIENNA—The award-winning Filipino film AZUCAR by Kurt Soberano will be screened free of charge on 11 April 2025 at 18:30 at Cinema 1, Fleischmarkt 6, 1010 Vienna. The event, sponsored by the Philippine Embassy in Austria and the Ilonggo Community in Austria, has reached full capacity, organizers confirmed.
AZUCAR, which recently won recognition at an international film festival in Turkey, tells a powerful story rooted in Filipino culture and social issues. The film has been praised for its direction, cinematography, and compelling narrative.
The screening aims to highlight Filipino talent and bring the Filipino-Austrian community together through cinema. It also serves as a cultural showcase for non-Filipino audiences interested in Southeast Asian film and storytelling.
Though seats are no longer available, organizers expressed gratitude for the overwhelming response. “It’s heartening to see such strong interest in Filipino cinema here in Austria,” said a representative from the Ilonggo Community.
Attendees who reserved tickets are advised to arrive early to secure their seats, as doors will open 30 minutes before the screening.
