In Germany, health authorities have reported 22,964 new corona infections to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) within 24 hours. Compared to the value one week ago, a good 500 more cases were reported. Last Saturday, the number of reported new infections was 22,461. The peak was reached on Friday with 23,648 reported cases. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the RKI has counted a total of 902,528 confirmed infections with Sars-CoV-2 in Germany.
After the number of new daily infections rose sharply in October and early November, the figure has recently been comparatively stable. However, there has not yet been a significant decrease in new infections, although a partial lockdown has been in place in Germany since the beginning of November.
The number of virus-related deaths in Germany rose by 254 to a total of 13,884 by Saturday, and the RKI estimates that around 593,100 people have now recovered.
According to the RKI management report of Friday, the so-called seven-day R was 1.05 (previous day: 0.99). This means that on average each person infected with Sars-CoV-2 infects approximately one other person.
