The Robert Koch Institute has reported 23,318 new corona infections in Germany. That is about 1,600 more than a week ago. Despite the partial lockdown, the number of infections thus remains at a high level. A further 483 people died from or with the virus. This brings the total number of deaths to 18,517, a new record of 487 deaths was only reached on Wednesday.
In total, more than 1.153 million people have been proven to be infected with the coronavirus. According to the RKI, approximately 835,700 people are considered to have recovered. The seven-day incidence rose to 138.7 per 100,000 inhabitants. The federal and state governments are striving to bring the figure back below the threshold of 50. Due to the continuing high infection rates, Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) recently pleaded for an additional tightening of restrictions depending on local conditions.
