Police will have an increased presence on New Year’s Eve and will also monitor compliance with the provisions of the Pyrotechnics Act.
Interior Minister Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) announced. Nearly 4,000 police officers will be on duty on New Year’s Eve. “The year 2020 has placed special and extraordinary demands on all of us. Let us therefore end it in a prudent and considered manner,” Nehammer appealed. In principle, there is a ban on the use of pyrotechnics in the local area – even on New Year’s Eve. However, mayors are free to decree exceptions for certain parts of the local area. Violations of the Pyrotechnics Act result in fines of up to 3,600 euros.
