German health departments have reported 22,924 new Corona infections to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) within 24 hours. In addition, 553 new deaths were recorded, the RKI announced early Friday. Interpreting the data is difficult at the moment because fewer people are likely to be tested during the holidays and around the New Year, and not all offices may be submitting their data.
As a result, there may be late reports, according to the RKI. A week ago, 25,533 new Corona infections and 412 deaths were registered within 24 hours. The peak of 1,129 new deaths had been reached on Wednesday (Dec. 30).
The number of new infections per 100,000 population reported to health departments within seven days (seven-day incidence) was 141.9 on Friday. Its previous high had been 197.6 on Dec. 22.
