14.04.2021 – Germany: Health offices in Germany have reported 21,683 new Corona infections to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) within one day. In addition, 342 new deaths were recorded within 24 hours. This is according to figures released by the RKI on Wednesday morning. Exactly one week ago, the RKI had recorded 9677 new infections and 298 deaths within one day. The data reflect the status of the RKI dashboard as of 5:03 a.m.; subsequent changes or additions by the RKI are possible.
The number of new infections per 100,000 population reported within seven days was 153.2 nationwide Wednesday morning, according to the RKI. The previous day, the RKI reported this seven-day incidence at 140.9; a week ago, it was 110.1.
Assessing the incidence of infection is still difficult because of the vacations that have passed and the Easter vacation. “We probably have to wait until the end of this week to see realistic numbers again,” virologist Christian Drosten of the Berlin Charite had said Tuesday in the podcast “Coronavirus Update” on NDR-Info.
The RKI counted 3,044,016 proven infections with Sars-CoV-2 in Germany since the beginning of the pandemic. The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections are not detected. The RKI gave the number of people who recovered as about 2,718,700. The total number of people who died from or with the involvement of a confirmed infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 79,088.
The nationwide seven-day R-value was 1.08 (previous day: 1.09), according to Tuesday’s RKI situation report. This means that 100 infected people mathematically infect 108 more people. The R-value has risen further, writes the RKI. The lowering of the value observed in the days after Easter could have been due to the temporarily lower number of tests. According to the RKI, the R-value can also only be meaningfully assessed again in a few days.
