Driving the subway as a part-time job? That’s possible with Wiener Linien. As the public transport network continues to grow and the range of services is constantly being expanded, Wiener Linien is also looking for new colleagues in many areas during the pandemic. In the summer, there will again be places in the much sought-after subway training program for part-time employees. The additional employees are to support “regular” drivers, especially at peak times in the morning and evening and during major events.
Part-time subway driver appeals to students
“With the part-time model, we are addressing new target groups. Students in particular can work part-time as subway drivers during their education. But young parents with small children can also reconcile job and family even better this way,” says Wiener Linien Managing Director Alexandra Reinagl.
“Creating meaningful jobs is a very big concern for me. It is also important to offer a wide variety of work models. After all, people have different needs depending on their stage of life. Particularly during a course of study, a flexible, meaningful job that is also good for the climate is perfect for the start of a career,” says a delighted Öffi City Councilor Peter Hanke.
12 hours a week in driver’s cab
The in-depth, three-month training is full-time. The next two training sessions start on June 21 and July 12. The prospective drivers learn technical details about the vehicle and the routes, how to deal properly with customers and get extensive driving practice in the subway simulator as well as on the track.
Applications are now open to all those who are at least 21 years old and have always wanted to take a seat in the front of the subway. Part-time drivers must drive at least 12 hours per week. The services can be arranged individually. In addition to career advancement opportunities, a wide range of health and further training options, Wiener Linien employees receive a free annual pass.
