Health Minister Wolfgang Mückstein can now imagine, for example, only allowing vaccinated people to attend events.
Local visit only with vaccination?
On Sunday he had still meant to such demands brought forward on the part of the Viennese health town councillor Peter Hacker (SPÖ), this discussion comes “too early”. In the ORF “ZiB” on Tuesday Mückstein said now, for him such a “1G” rule is conceivable starting from October.
Mückstein on tightening: “Must talk about 1G”.
“I believe that before an increasingly precarious epidemiological situation in the fall, we have to talk about 1G – and I can certainly imagine it in October,” he told ORF. First, however, everyone must have had the opportunity to be vaccinated, the report said.
The debate had been initiated on Sunday by Vienna’s city councillor for health Peter Hacker (SPÖ), who proposed bans on access for the unvaccinated to recreational and sports facilities, for example. While on Monday support came from the medical chamber, the other Lands of the Federal Republic spoke out for a federal solution. Hacker’s office specified at the beginning of the week that his push for “1G” was also about catering establishments.
Vienna wants to wait for decision at state level
On Tuesday, it was said from Vienna that before deciding on any stricter Corona measures in the federal capital, one wants to wait for the new regulations of the federal government, which are due in September at the latest. As a spokesman for City Councillor Peter Hacker (SPÖ) told the APA, after that they would talk to experts and then decide on any stricter rules.
According to the “Opening Ordinance”, which is still valid until the end of August, the “3G rule” applies to gastronomy and leisure facilities. Only those who have been vaccinated, recovered or tested may be admitted. Several federal states have spoken out in favor of only admitting fully vaccinated persons, at least in the after-hours catering sector, such as discotheques. Vienna also wants the same for restaurants and refers to corresponding requests from the industry.
Local ban for unvaccinated persons too early for the Chamber of Commerce
For the Viennese chamber of economics a local prohibition for unvaccinated ones would come however too early, as technical group chairman Peter Dobcak on APA inquiry said. He demands from the federal government and the state in particular an information offensive in migrant languages before the measures are tightened. Otherwise hundreds of restaurants would stand empty with one blow – with accordingly “dramatic consequences” for the economic situation of the landlords. However, the trade group chairman also criticizes the many innkeepers who are already defaulting on 3G status checks: “We have members, who do not control at all and where the guests are not tested by the bank.” With the self-discipline there is still air upward.
