From Monday, December 7, public services will also be possible again: this was agreed upon by the churches and religious communities on Thursday in a new agreement with the Ministry of Education. According to this agreement, a minimum distance of 1.5 meters must be maintained during church services, during which a mouth and nose protector must be worn. Parish and choir singing will remain suspended until further notice. “Religious celebrations that can be postponed are also postponed”, for example weddings.

On Thursday morning, the Catholic bishops discussed the key points of the agreement in a video conference. This was confirmed by the General Secretary of the Bishops’ Conference, Peter Schipka: “In addition, the rules for the celebration of public services at Christmas during the day and
still working at night”.

According to Kathpress, Minister of Education Susanne Raab thanked all churches and religious communities “for holding out during the lockdown. It is very important that the practice of religion will now again be possible in the form of public services, because it gives the believers a lot of support in this challenging time”.

Until the 2nd Sunday in Advent, only non-public services with a maximum
10 persons possible, so that in this way Holy Mass can be celebrated on behalf of the community. In addition, the churches are open for personal prayer.
