This was announced by the EMA today in Amsterdam. Both drugs are intended for use in early stages of infection and are based on antiviral monoclonal antibodies. The EMA experts had reviewed and assessed all the manufacturers’ data from studies on the efficacy and possible side effects of the drugs.…

Bishops’ conference tightens corona rule for services in Catholic churches

Due to a significant increase in the number of infections, the Catholic Church is tightening its Corona regulations: The FFP2 mask remains mandatory at public services. In addition, however, all those providing a liturgical service must provide proof of 3G. The mask requirement can be waived for “celebrations for a single occasion” such as baptism, first communion, confirmation or marriage ceremonies if the 2G rule is specifically agreed for all. There are also tightenings for choir singing. These are the most important changes in the framework order of the Bishops’…

Almost 12,000 new infections in Austria from Wednesday to Thursday

The Corona situation in Austria continues to worsen: only yesterday, a new all-time high in the pandemic was registered with almost 11,400 new infections. In the case of intensive care beds, the 400 mark was already exceeded the day before. “We have to take the situation very seriously,” said Health Minister Wolfgang Mückstein about the situation and invited to the crisis summit with the two problem children Upper Austria (incidence of 1,138) and Salzburg (incidence: 957). Mückstein advocated regional lockdowns for the unvaccinated – and was rebuffed by the state…

Coronavirus worldwide: Austria nears critical ICU utilization, several countries accelerate booster vaccinations

More than 251 million people have tested positive for the virus worldwide, according to Johns Hopkins University. More than 5 million infected people have died. About 7.3 billion vaccine doses have been administered worldwide. Austria’s intensive care units could reach a critical limit in as little as two weeks because of rising Corona numbers. That’s according to a scientific model calculation commissioned by the Ministry of Health that became public Wednesday (Nov. 10). It assumes that the seven-day incidence will rise to 1000 by Nov. 24. It currently stands at…

Diminishing protective effect of vaccination and skyrocketing infection numbers are showing their consequences

Of the 72,794 symptomatic laboratory-confirmed coronavirus cases that occurred between Oct. 11 and Nov. 7, 41 percent of those affected – 29,818 people – were fully vaccinated. This was announced yesterday by the Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES). The number of vaccination breakthroughs was thus recently significantly higher than the total of about 17 percent since February. A vaccination breakthrough is defined by the occurrence of symptoms despite complete vaccination, because the vaccination also often protects against infection, but is approved to prevent disease. Even very mild symptoms…

CoV traffic lights: entire country remains high-risk zone

There will be little change in the risk assessment of the CoV traffic light commission at its meeting today. As the 14-day trend in new infections continues to point upward everywhere, all federal states remain in the red zone, which expresses very high risk of infection. Upper and Lower Austria, Salzburg and Vorarlberg threaten to climb above the critical 33 percent mark in intensive care units in the next two weeks. The trend among the over-65s continues to be negative throughout the country, and infection rates are also rising sharply…

Forecast: intensive capacity threatens to reach limit “in all states”

With rapidly rising infection rates and the associated steady increase in Covid-19 patients in domestic hospitals, reaching system-critical utilization in intensive care units (ICUs) is approaching. The Covid-19 Forecasting Consortium warns of this in its capacity forecast issued Wednesday. “Exceeding the 33 percent utilization threshold is possible in all states on Nov. 24,” the experts stress. The probability of exceeding system-critical utilization in intensive care units in Upper Austria in two weeks is 95 percent, according to the forecasting consortium. In Lower Austria, it is 84 percent, and in Salzburg…
