On Thursday afternoon US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo landed in Vienna. On Friday he will meet Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen and Secretary of State Schallenberg.
As part of his tour of Central Europe, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo landed at Vienna International Airport in Schwechat on Thursday. The top US politician came from Slovenia, and this is his third stop. His packed programme on Friday includes top Austrian representatives, the head of the IAEA and his Greek counterpart.
Pompeo, who did not attend any media appointments on Thursday, will meet Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen on Friday. It was announced from the Hofburg that bilateral issues, such as trade, will be discussed during the meeting. The coronavirus and climate change are also to be topics of discussion.
A meeting with Pompeo’s Austrian counterpart Alexander Schallenberg is planned for lunch. In the run-up to the meeting, Schallenberg praised the USA as an indispensable partner, not only in economic but also in political terms.
