The World Health Organization (WHO) has reported more new corona infections worldwide within 24 hours than ever before. The number was almost 300,000, as the WHO reported on Saturday evening. In total, more than 21 million infections have been reported worldwide since the new coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 became known at the end of last year.
According to experts, the number of unreported cases is considerable.
The concrete figures, as of 10:00 CEST on Saturday: 294,237 new cases within 24 hours. Since the outbreak began, a total of 21,026,758 cases have been reported. 755,786 infected people have died worldwide according to WHO statistics.
The previous record was set by the WHO on 31 July with just over 292,000 new cases reported within 24 hours. In absolute figures, the most affected countries are the populous USA, Brazil and India, with more than 100,000 new cases each within seven days.
