The drastic increase in corona infections is causing the government concern.
“These figures are clearly too high for this point in time,” said Health Minister Rudolf Anschober on Saturday. Specifically, the authorities reported 869 new infections in just 24 hours yesterday (as of noon). Vienna alone registered 444 of these.
For comparison, the highest daily increase to the peak of the pandemic so far in Austria was 1,065 new infections on March 26. However, only 322 people nationwide recovered from the novel virus infection during the same period.

For Anschober “a worrying development”. It must be prevented with all strength that from it an “exponential increase in the direction of a second wave” becomes.
Growth
An increase in virological activities in large parts of Austria – especially in Vienna, Lower Austria and Tyrol – is noticeable. In the federal capital, the increase in new infections – with very many tests – is the highest at 4.35%. It is lowest in Carinthia with 0.88 percent. The nationwide average is 2.73 percent.
But why is the number increasing? “We currently find regional cluster formations in many areas, especially at private parties, in families, in clubs and bars,” explains Anschober.
