Already on Thursday the leaders of the Federal government informed the Austrian population about the new measures. In order to prevent a second lockdown, they were necessary. “We know that infections mainly occur indoors, in private contact. What makes people happy is often the site of contagions. Social contacts must now be further restricted throughout Austria,” said Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz.
On Friday evening the “change of the COVID 19 relaxation regulation” was published. Health Minister Rudolf Anschober thus presented the legal basis for the restrictions, which will come into force on Monday, September 21 at 00:00 hrs.
The maximum number of persons for indoor celebrations is ten persons per table, this is now also regulated in the regulation. The Federal Government can still not intervene in the private sector, this would contradict the constitution. Nevertheless, Chancellor Sebastian Kurz appealed that in the current situation it would not be smart at all to hold large celebrations in the own home.
Funerals are excluded from this regulation, since they cannot be postponed. However, there is an upper limit of 500 persons. Events outdoors need an official permission starting from 250 participants, already starting from 50 persons indoor and 100 persons outdoor a COVID representative as well as a prevention concept are to be submitted.
As already before the first loosening regulation guests of restaurants, bars and Cafes must carry now again at the way to the seat and on the toilet a mouth nose protection. This is again obligatory for waiters. Per table also in each case only maximal ten persons may sit, whereby children do not count to it. The mask obligation for the trade is extended in addition to markets and coherent shopping centers.
So far, so-called “closed societies” were excluded from the curfew. However, this gray area was often misused to celebrate excessive parties late into the night, and even the society was usually not as “closed” as assumed.
The 1.00 am curfew is therefore now also applicable to these. According to the Minister of the Interior Karl Nehammer (ÖVP), this is to be controlled more intensively with focus actions in all federal states.
