The effective reproduction number for Austria is again above 1.0 after one week. 1 infected person infected recently on average 1.13 further persons, as can be seen from the calculations of the Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES) and the Technical University of Graz. According to the model, the number of newly infected persons increased by 4.4 percent daily during the period under investigation.
In contrast to one week before, the effective reproduction number for October 7th was now again above 1.0 in all federal states. In some federal states, however, the number of newly diagnosed cases remained very low, which is why fluctuations in the reproduction number must be interpreted with great caution, the experts emphasized.
A reproduction number of 1.0 means that each case triggers another new infection. Thus, theoretically there is a constant number of new infections every day, i.e. an endemic spread of the virus. However, the AGES pointed out that the effective reproduction number does not say anything about the level of the daily case numbers.
