Rapid swab test – and the result is available in 15 minutes! Vienna International Airport is currently checking a quick corona test with its own staff.
This is how it should work in practice: Passengers show their boarding card in the check-in area of Terminal 3, undergo an antigen test and after 10 to 15 minutes receive the diagnosis by SMS or in paper form. If the result is negative, the journey continues. If there is any suspicion, a PCR test is arranged in coordination with the authorities.
First trial runs with employees were successful. AUA plans to use the rapid test offer for the first time “soon” on a European flight – free of charge for passengers and on a voluntary basis. After that, the airport would like to make the rapid test available to all airlines. It remains to be seen whether and to what extent the costs (reportedly under 30 euros) will be passed on.
At present, however, the rapid antigen test is not yet a replacement for the PCR variant that is mandatory in many countries. However, Julian Jäger, CEO of the airport, would like to make it mandatory “This would restore the freedom of travel that is so urgently needed by the economy and tourism. In any case, the trials have shown that widespread use is possible.
