Coronavirus infections in Europe have more than doubled in the last ten days, according to a Reuters census. On Thursday, the number of new cases in Europe rose above the 200,000 mark for the first time, and on October 12, the 100,000 mark was exceeded for the first time.
According to the census, the total number of infections in Europe amounts to 7.8 million and 247,000 deaths.
In France, for example, the coronavirus continues to spread rapidly. The country’s Ministry of Health reported 41,622 new infections, the highest number ever recorded in one day. The country extended the curfew to other parts of the country on Thursday evening. 38 additional departments are affected. This means that a total of 46 million of France’s 67 million inhabitants are not allowed on the streets between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. The curfew comes into force on Friday and is valid for six weeks.
