In the last 24 hours, the number of people infected with SARS-CoV-2 in Austria has risen by 3,394, according to figures from the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of the Interior (as of 9:30 a.m. today).
Nationwide, 1,027 people have died as a result of Covid-19 and 61,684 have recovered. At present, 1,569 are undergoing hospital treatment, 224 of them in intensive care units. In total, 89,496 people in Austria have tested positive since the beginning of the pandemic.
7-day incidence at 214
According to the figures of the AGES-Dashboard (as of yesterday, 14.00 hrs) there are 33,896 active cases. The new dashboard recently replaced that of the Ministry of Health. This is significantly more active cases than the two ministries’ counting system, as convalescents are registered more slowly in the new system.
In addition, new cases are no longer assigned to the registration time, but to the date of laboratory diagnosis, which may have taken place days before. This makes the epidemic curve more accurate, but changes the number of newly reported infections, which was previously used as a parameter, but which is still communicated in the morning by the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Health.
More meaningful, however, is the number of positively diagnosed cases over the past seven days per 100,000 inhabitants (7-day incidence), which stands at 214.1 (as of 2:00 p.m. yesterday).
