Yes, the number of infections is rising again, not only in Austria but also in other countries within europe. No, that is no reason to panic. I am certain that the situation can still be mastered with caution, reason and responsibility.

You can also provoke a crisis. Or – as in the case of Corona – unnecessarily dramatize a pandemic that has been raging for months and is changing all our lives and everyday life. This danger exists in Austria, which is remarkably successful in the fight against the virus by and large. Of course, the rising number of reported infections over the past few days is a cause for concern. But did anyone really believe that the gradual relaxation introduced since May could pass us by without a trace?

If you want to reduce the risk of infection to a minimum, you have to completely cut yourself off from the environment. So the more people we meet, the greater the risk of catching something. A flu, for example. Anyone who wants to protect themselves against coughs and colds in cold weather should dress warmly and avoid dealing with people with a cold if possible. Or get flu vaccination right away.

The number of infected people can even be twice as high. And because every flu season ( the period from the end of October to mid-May) is different, the numbers fluctuate enormously. So does the number of deaths. Sometimes there are several hundred. And what does all this have to do with Corona, you may now rightly ask? Quite a lot, because despite all the differences, some of which are quite serious, the spread of any virus can be influenced and, in the best case, be contained.

We have already learned a lot about the virus
Shocking pictures of overcrowded intensive care units in hospitals or even trucks full of coffins with corona deaths have fortunately been spared Austria so far due to its quick and level-headed reaction. And it can stay that way if the mix of compulsory masks, distance rules, increased hygiene and now also compulsory testing works. But everyone is responsible for this. Serious violations must be punished quickly and emphatically.

Second wave? The first one never ebbed!
If the people are careful, considerate and resomsible in their daily lives, Austria can be spared a second lockdown. And if there is so much talk of a second wave – please take a close look at how big it is. Because in reality, the corona wave has never ebbed since its first appearance. Fortunately, however, it has been getting smaller and smaller since May. Now it is growing again. We all have to take this seriously and react accordingly: with caution, reason and responsibility. Then the wave will also become smaller again.
