France has registered more than 60,000 new infections with the coronavirus in 24 hours. This was reported by the French health authorities last night. This is the highest number since the start of large-scale tests. Within one day, around 400 people in hospitals have also died in connection with Covid-19 disease. In addition, more than 400 people died in old people’s homes and nursing homes. However, this figure is not collected daily.
The news agency AFP, citing the national health authority, reported that the data on new infections had not been complete due to a technical breakdown in recent days. It is therefore quite possible that there could still be late reports – the number of new infections is therefore likely to be higher. France, with a population of around 67 million, had recently performed more than two million coronavirus tests per week.
For one week now, strict exit restrictions have been in force in France; people are only allowed to leave the country with a good reason. Restaurants and retail outlets have closed, but schools are still open, unlike in spring.
