In Italy, 32,616 new infections with the coronavirus have been reported today. According to the Ministry of Health, there have been 331 deaths, compared to 425 yesterday. In total, the number of deaths since the outbreak of the pandemic has risen to 41,394. 191,144 tests were carried out within 24 hours.
The number of confirmed active cases rose to 558,636. 529,447 people were in quarantine. The number of Covid-19 patients treated in hospitals increased from 25,109 to 26,440 compared to the previous day, the Italian authorities further reported. There were 2,749 patients in intensive care units.
New restrictions in force
In Italy, restrictive measures have come into force due to the sharp increase in coronavirus numbers. Since Friday evening, a night-time curfew has been in force from 22.00 to 5.00 hours. In four regions – Lombardy, Piedmont, Valle d’Aosta and Calabria – a “lockdown light” with curfew and travel restrictions has been imposed.
Stores and restaurants, with the exception of supermarkets, pharmacies, newsstands and tobacconists, must remain closed in these regions. The government adopted support measures for the affected economic sectors amounting to two billion euros.
