More than 50 million infections with the novel coronavirus have already been detected worldwide since the outbreak in China in December 2019. Of the 50,010,400 registered corona infections, 1,251,980 were fatal, according to a census by the news agency AFP based on information from the authorities on Sunday.
With 12.6 million confirmed corona infections, Europe is the world region most affected by the pandemic. More than 305,000 infected people have already died on the continent. In Latin America and the Caribbean, 11.6 million infections and 411,000 deaths were registered, in Asia around eleven million infections and almost 177,000 corona deaths.
The country with by far the highest case numbers is the USA. Here 9.88 million infections and more than 237,000 deaths were registered.
