Within 24 hours, 201,961 new cases of infection were counted in the USA, as Johns Hopkins University announced on Tuesday evening (local time). The highest level of new infections in the U.S. to date was around 127,000 cases and was recorded last Saturday. However, the current exceeding of the 200,000 case mark is partly due to the late submission of data last weekend.
The total number of infection cases in the USA since the beginning of the pandemic has thus increased to around 10.2 million. There were also 1,535 new deaths related to the novel coronavirus, the highest number in months. The total number of corona deaths in the country thus rose to 239,588.
