The announcement of a corona vaccine provides relief worldwide. But now Biontech has commented on the side effects.

Vaccines against the corona virus are being worked on under high pressure worldwide – some manufacturers are now even ready to say that the first vaccinations are realistically expected before the end of this year. These include the vaccine developed by the German company Biontech in collaboration with the U.S. pharmaceutical giant Pfizer.

The researchers were amazed not only by its rapid development, but also by its apparently very high efficacy. Around 43,000 study participants had tested the vaccine – and the results promise an efficacy of around 95 percent. This requires two vaccine doses per person at intervals of three weeks.

However, many people are skeptical in view of the comparatively rapid development of the vaccine and ask themselves: Is the vaccine against the corona virus really harmless?

According to Biontech, the vaccine was generally well tolerated in all participant populations. However, side effects occurred in more than 2 percent of the test persons, but these all subsided quickly, as Biontech and Pfizer write in a press release.

Thus, 3.8 percent of the study participants suffered from fatigue and exhaustion after the vaccine had been administered to them. 2 percent of the test persons complained of headaches, which occurred mainly after the second vaccination dose.

Biontech and Pfizer plan to produce up to 50 million doses of vaccine in 2020. The companies plan to produce up to 1.3 billion doses of the vaccine by the end of 2021.
