The Italian authorities intend to take tough action to comply with the anti-Covid bills adopted over the Christmas holidays. For example, 70,000 security forces are to be deployed between Christmas and New Year, announced Minister of the Interior Luciana Lamorgese yesterday in an interview with the TV station Sky. Among other things, they are to check that the restrictions on the freedom of travel in force between December 21 and January 6 are being observed.
Borders, airports and train stations are also to be strictly controlled, the Minister said. A ten-day quarantine obligation is to apply to travellers from abroad from 20 December onwards, according to a new decree of the Italian government, which came into force on Friday. Italians returning from abroad will also have to undergo quarantine.
The government imposed strict travel restrictions for the days between December 21 and January 6. Thus, travel between the regions is prohibited except in very few exceptional cases. To 25., 26. and 31 December as well as on 1 January one may not leave even the own Wohngemeinde.
