Since the start of the Corona pandemic, more than 20 million infections with the virus have been detected in the United States. That represents about a quarter of all recorded infections with the SARS-CoV-2 pathogen worldwide, according to data released Friday by Johns Hopkins University in the U.S. city of Baltimore. No other country in the world has as many confirmed infections in absolute numbers as the United States.
According to the data, the number in India is 10.3 million, and 7.7 million in Brazil. Experts assume that the number of unreported cases is high in most countries. Around 330 million people live in the USA. More than 346,000 deaths associated with the Covid-19 disease are known there.
The university’s website is updated regularly and therefore shows a higher level than the official figures from the World Health Organization (WHO). In some cases, the figures are subsequently corrected downward.
