Heute.at publishes in its online platform about the extension of lockdown in Austria. This: Both the schools and the trade will remain closed. The background to this is the B1.1.7. virus mutation, which is believed to be already widespread in Austria. In a random sample in Vienna, the virus variant was already detectable in almost every fifth PCR test.
What’s in store for Austrians now – these are the new tightenings, which are to apply until February 8 for the time being:
➤ No opening of trade
➤ The gastronomy remains closed.
➤ No hairdresser – the body-related services also experience no exception.
➤ Indoor sports remain a pipe dream, fitness centers remain closed.
➤ Winter tourism written off: Hotels will not open even during the energy vacations; ski slopes are only available to locals or day visitors.
➤ An FFP2 mask is to be made mandatory in supermarkets, pharmacies, post offices and public transport.
➤ Schools will remain closed until after the semester break.
➤ Strict curfews will remain in place to contain the pandemic.
➤ Home office will not be mandatory for now, but strongly recommended.
Saturday afternoon, the government once again discussed these planned innovations with the social partners. Head of the Economic Chamber Harald Mahrer urged opening perspectives – “something must happen now,” Mahrer said as late as Saturday morning. Behind the scenes, however, there has long been a struggle with Finance Minister Gernot Blümel for further Corona aid for the branches badly shaken by the shutdown.
The federal government wants to present their detailed plans on Sunday (11.00 clock) to the population in the context of a press conference. Before that, there is still part 2 of the debate between the federal government and the states on Saturday evening.
