In an interview with “Puls 24,” Health Minister Rudolf Anschober has already revealed how far the number of new infections in Austria must fall before opening steps can be taken. In the interview with the TV station, Anschober explained that an end to the lockdown will come at 700 to 800 new infections per day and a 7-day incidence well below 100.

“The reproduction factor should be below 0.9 in this case,” the health minister tells “Pulse 24.” Anschober sees the new Corona measures, such as mandatory FFP-2 masks in retail outlets and public transport, as well as the two-meter distance, as good ways to achieve these goals. The 7-day incidence is currently (as of January 25) 116.

During the talks with the provincial governors, the federal government also wants to evaluate how well the third lockdown is being implemented regionally by the population. The health minister sees in the discussion with the TV station in this point namely also weaknesses, “which it applies to analyze”.

“This also includes determining whether there has been an increased number of infections in ski resorts,” Anschober further explains to “Puls 24”. In the interview, the health minister also defends the vaccination strategy in Austria. However, there is still a great need for information among the population.
