Despite strict lockdowns, the number of new infections in Austria doesn’t really want to go down. Since Monday, 1,417 more SARS COV-2 infections have been registered in Austria, according to figures from the Interior and Health Ministries (as of 9:30 a.m. Tuesday). This was slightly below the average of 1,531 new infections per day over the past seven days. Compared to Monday, 64 people were added who died from or with the coronavirus.
This brings the number of deaths related to Covid 19 disease to 7,515 since the pandemic began. Statistically, 84.4 people per 100,000 population died from or with the virus. In the past seven days, an average of 3.6 deaths per 100,000 population have been added. In absolute numbers, there were 45.1 Corona victims daily in the past seven days in Austria.
High values in Salzburg
There was little movement in the seven-day incidence of cases. From 121.2, the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants decreased only slightly within seven days to 120.4. Double-digit figures were only recorded in Upper Austria (95.9, although 5.7 higher than Monday), Styria (96.4) and Vienna (90.0). The seven-day incidence in Salzburg remains very high at 199.5.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, there have been 407,140 infections with coronavirus. Of these, 384,926 patients were considered recovered. As of Tuesday, there were 14,699 active infections in Austria. This was 373 fewer than the previous day. On average, the number of actively infected people decreased by 205 per day last week.
For the second day in a row, there was an increase in hospital patients. 1,886 meant 40 more than on Monday, but still 175 fewer than a week earlier. Likewise, for the second day in a row, there was exactly the same number of those patients requiring intensive care. 320 there were.
The most new infections gave it in the past 24 hours in Upper Austria with 283, followed by Vienna with 226 and then already Salzburg with 206. Over 200 new cases, lay also still the Steiermark with 202, then Lower Austria with 168, Tyrol with 137 and Kärnten with 105 new infections followed. Vorarlberg with 53 additional Corona cases and Burgenland with 37 remained in double digits.
