As part of a pilot project, 400 pharmacies in Austria will offer free rapid antigen tests starting Monday. Registration is required. All Pharmacies offering free covid 19 test, click here
The free corona virus tests will be launched in about 400 pharmacies across the country, and the offer will be expanded gradually thereafter, according to the Austrian Chamber of Pharmacists. “Corona testing is an important pillar of the strategy to combat the pandemic and can bring a bit of normality and freedom back to people in many areas of daily life,” said Ulrike Mursch-Edlmayr, president of the Chamber of Pharmacists.
“Pharmacists are very keen to make the best possible contribution to this. Testing is an essential tool for containing the pandemic,” the president said. Simply walking into the pharmacy to get tested won’t work, however, because “pre-scheduling by phone for testing is absolutely necessary due to the expected high demand,” according to the Chamber of Pharmacists.
Customers must also bring their e-card to their testing appointment. The test itself is administered by the pharmacist. “Antigen tests are used for the procedure, which have a CE mark and have been designated by the manufacturer for a nasopharyngeal swab,” according to the Chamber of Pharmacists. If the test result is negative, the pharmacy will provide a test confirmation, which, if no more than 48 hours old, is considered a free test for near-body service providers.
Those who test positive must self-quarantine and notify the Corona Hotline 1450, and the pharmacy also reports the case to the health department.
