France has passed the threshold of 100,000 registered CoV deaths. Authorities reported 296 additional deaths yesterday – bringing the number of reported deaths to 100,073. The country of about 67 million people has been hit hard by the Covid 19 pandemic. France’s President Emmanuel Macron wrote on Twitter that no face or name of the deceased would be forgotten.
Last spring, France had already been among the countries hit hardest by the pandemic in Europe. France’s government spokesman Gabriel Attal warned yesterday that the third wave of the epidemic was not yet behind France – but there were encouraging signs.
The country has repeatedly fought the coronavirus pandemic with strict exit restrictions. Currently, most stores in France are closed again, people’s freedom of movement is restricted, and in schools, the times for the Easter vacations have been standardized across the country. Classroom attendance is expected to gradually resume thereafter.
