To achieve full protection, Corona recovered still need one vaccine dose.
In the debate surrounding easing steps in the Corona pandemic, the question is whether those who have already recovered actually still need to be vaccinated against the virus.

Only one vaccination dose for those who have recovered
The “Green Passport” is intended to make things easier for those who have been vaccinated and those who have already recovered, for example by eliminating the obligation to take a test. A person is considered to have recovered if he or she has overcome the disease in the past six months. In the case of vaccination, three weeks after the first step, access is assured.

However, the question now arises whether convalescents still need to be vaccinated.

The epidemiologist Prof. Timo Ulrichs clarifies: “In any case (…) it should be made clear to those who have recovered that they have really been through the Covid 19 disease (…). And then this must be documented somewhere, so that one can see that this is equivalent to a vaccination – but only with one.”

This means that recovered persons still need a vaccination in any case to build up full protection. Unlike non-recovered people, instead of two doses, only one. “Convalescents plus a single vaccination is then just equal to those who have not yet had any contact with the virus, no illness, and with two vaccinations,” Ulrichs said.
