The federal government will consult today, Friday, from 9 a.m. in the Chancellor’s Office with the provincial governors and experts on further opening steps. At noon, the public will be informed.

Participants of the round on the part of the government are Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, Vice-Chancellor Werner Kogler, Health Minister Wolfgang Mückstein, Tourism Minister Elisabeth Köstinger as well as State Secretary for Culture Andrea Mayer; in addition, all nine provincial governors and President of the Association of Municipalities Alfred Riedl; as experts the physicians Oswald Wagner and Eva Schernhammer as well as the simulation researcher Niki Popper are invited.

From government circles it was heard that the following opening steps are considered fixed as of June 10:

  • The maximum number of people per table in the gastronomy sector will be increased from four to eight (indoor) and from eight to 16 (outdoor). These numbers will also apply to gatherings in general – with these numbers of people, spacing rules and masks will no longer be necessary.
  • The curfew will be moved back from 10 p.m. to midnight.
  • Amateur rehearsals (e.g., orchestras, choirs) are allowed subject to the 3G rule – with no square footage restrictions.
  • The current square meter rule in retail as well as in leisure (e.g. fitness studios) and cultural facilities (e.g. museums) will be relaxed: instead of 20, only ten square meters per person must be available in the future.
  • more details will be published on Friday afternoon!
