The government announced new relaxations from July 1 and announces further opening steps from July 22.

The federal government announced today, Thursday further relaxations of the Corona measures and openings in view of lower new infection figures. Dancing will be allowed again in clubs and discotheques from July 1. Also, the FFP2 mask obligation falls from the beginning of July in almost all areas, but mouth-nose protection (MNS) is partly still mandatory. For large events, there is now only the 3G requirement, but no other restrictions.

“The situation is a very, very, good one. Better, better than I expected,” Chancellor Sebastian Kurz said Thursday in a press conference in Vienna.

3G rule remains
Taking into account the 3-G rule (vaccinated, tested, recovered), dancing in the club and drinking at the bar will be possible again from July 1. For the time being, clubs and discotheques are subject to capacity restrictions. From July 22, there will be no more restriction. With July 22, according to Tourism Minister Elisabeth Köstinger (ÖVP), the registration requirement in the gastornomy industry should also fall.

As early as July 1, the mask requirement will generally be dropped in the catering industry – and in public transportation, enclosed public places, retail and museums, mouth-nose protection may be worn instead of the FFP2 mask. The FFP2 mask requirement remains in place only in nursing homes and hospitals.

The requirements for large events will also be significantly reduced: From July 1, all events can take place without upper audience limits and capacity restrictions, in the arts, culture and sports sectors – including catering services. The indoor mask requirement will be dropped for all events – only the “3G” certificate will remain mandatory. And there is a notification requirement from 100 people and a permit requirement from 500 people.
