A milestone was reached in vaccination: the mark of ten million was recently exceeded. Since the beginning of the vaccination campaign, 10,039,144 vaccinations have been administered. 34,865 vaccinations were administered on Tuesday.
In total, according to the E-vaccination passport data, 5,364,105 people have received at least partial vaccination: That is 60.05 percent of the population. 4,891,092, or 54.76 percent of Austrians, have already been fully vaccinated.
Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) and Health Minister Wolfgang Mückstein (Greens) were pleased. They said the vaccination campaign was a complete success. “The latest figures confirm to us the high effectiveness of vaccination of over 90 percent,” they said in a joint statement.
Kurz made an “urgent” appeal to make use of the vaccination offer, while Mückstein thanked everyone who had made it possible – and also those who have already been vaccinated. Mückstein also called on people to get vaccinated, especially young people.
With only 12,928 first and second doses, fewer vaccinations were administered on Monday than at any time since April 5. On Tuesday, 34,865 immunizations were added, but only 3,238 of those were first shots.
The highest first-time immunization rate continues to be in Burgenland, at 67.4 percent. In Lower Austria, 62.9 percent of the population has been vaccinated at least once, and in Styria, 60.6 percent. After Tyrol (59.4), Vienna (58.2), Vorarlberg (58.1), Carinthia (56.5) and Salzburg (56.4), Upper Austria brings up the rear with a vaccination coverage rate of 55.7 percent.
