From Tuesday to Wednesday, there were 1,221 new Corona infections in Austria, as many as last at the beginning of May.
This means that the fourth wave, in which experts already see the pandemic situation in Austria, has also reached its preliminary peak. The 7-day incidence rises to 73.68.
There are no new deaths related to Covid 19 infection. The pandemic has claimed 10,757 lives so far. The current numbers bring the number of active cases to 9,905.
In the past 24 hours, 68,803 new PCR tests have been performed, bringing the positive rate to 1.77 percent.
At the provincial level, Vienna is currently particularly affected – with a 7-day incidence of 97, followed by Salzburg (89), Vorarlberg (82) and Tyrol (79).
23 new patients are undergoing treatment in Austria’s hospitals. There are currently a total of 293 hospitalizations. In the intensive care units there are 59 patients (three fewer than on Tuesday).
Five million vaccinated
Despite the rising infection figures, the vaccination campaign in Austria continues to run slowly. 22,989 vaccinations were carried out on Monday. 5,403,970 people (60.50% of the total population) have received at least one Corona vaccination, of which 5,038,214 people (56.40%) have full vaccination protection.
