The Covid prognosis consortium expects a doubling of Covid patients in intensive care units within 14 days.
On Wednesday 59 Covid-19 infected persons required intensive care in Austrian hospitals; in exactly two weeks, the experts’ current estimate is that there will already be 118. In a worst-case scenario, as many as 151 Covid patients could be in need of intensive care on September 1.

The normal wards, where 234 Corona patients were treated on Wednesday, are also expected to see a significant increase in Covid 19 infections. The Covid Prognosis Consortium expects 404 patients on Sept. 1, and the worst-case scenario could be well over 500.

As for infection numbers, where Wednesday’s 1,221 new cases within 24 hours was the highest since early May, current projections call for a further increase. 1,400 new infections are expected next Wednesday. A seven-day incidence of 96 cases per 100,000 population is expected for Austria on August 25, with 73.8 reported by the AGES dashboard on Wednesday afternoon. The trend in the individual provinces will continue to vary. In Burgenland, the seven-day incidence is expected to be 53 next Wednesday, while in Vienna it will be 129. Currently, Burgenland has the lowest incidence in Austria at 46.3, while the federal capital is at the other end at 98.1.
