The infection wave is gaining momentum. According to the Robert Koch Institute, Germany is now at the beginning of the fourth Corona wave. Younger age groups are also strongly affected this time.

The seven-day incidence has risen again. According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), it was 56.4 – the previous day the value had been 54.5, a week ago 36.2. The health offices in Germany reported to the RKI within one day 3668 Corona new infections. This is according to figures reflecting the status of the RKI dashboard. A week ago, the figure for Germany had been 2126 infections.

Seven-day incidence indicates the number of new infections per 100,000 population within a week. The incidence has been the basis for many Corona restrictions in the pandemic so far, such as under the federal emergency brake that expired at the end of June. In the future, other values such as hospital admissions will be taken into account to a greater extent. Across Germany, 4 deaths were recorded within 24 hours, according to the new data. A week ago, there had also been 4 deaths.

The RKI counted 3,871,865 proven infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic. The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections are not detected. The RKI gave the number of people who recovered as 3,702,100. The number of people who died from or with the involvement of a confirmed infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 91,980.
