Most customers already have FFP2 masks, the demand is no longer so high.

With the stricter Corona measures coming into force on Wednesday (15 September), people will once again have to wear an FFP2 mask instead of the conventional mouth-nose protection (MNS) when shopping for food. The discount store Hofer wants to give away free masks at the checkout again, Spar and Lidl also want to keep it that way. Rewe (Adeg, Billa, Bipa, Billa Plus, Penny) will also offer the masks free of charge, contrary to initial statements.

Hofer customers can get an FFP2 mask free of charge at the checkout before shopping. Plexiglas walls already installed at all checkouts last spring represent an additional safety measure for customers and employees, the discount chain explained in a statement on Tuesday.

According to its own information, the grocery chain Spar has given masks to customers free of charge from the beginning, and it will continue to do so, a spokeswoman said in response to an APA inquiry. “But the need of customers is no longer so high, most already have masks anyway.”
