Two pharmacies in Vienna are now offering instant tests for Corona antibodies. Within 15 minutes, the result should be known at Klimt Apotheke in Vienna-Meidling and Apotheke 21 in Vienna-Floridsdorf.
Virologist Von Laer calls for nationwide antibody study
People who have recovered, but also those who have been vaccinated, would like to know how resistant their bodies are after they have been through a Corona disease or administered a vaccination. Various pharmacies in Austria now offer rapid tests for this purpose. These include Klimt Apohteke and Apotheke 21-B in Vienna. This is how it works: Simply go to the selected pharmacies and get tested – within 15 minutes the result is known.

Antibody test takes 15 minutes
The Austrian healthcare company Virinnox, in cooperation with UPN Austria as hardware partner, now offers the possibility to quickly and easily determine the number of neutralizing antibodies in the blood. The digital platform of Virinnox serves as a one-stop-shop: first the registration takes place under www.virinnox.com, where the respective pharmacy as well as a freely selectable appointment can be booked. Then a drop of capillary blood is taken from the fingertip and analyzed on site at the pharmacy. The test takes around 15 minutes. The result is sent to the person tested by SMS or email. Virinnox recommends a price of 29.90 euros per test unit. A successive extension of the pharmacy network is in conversion.

Instant test delivers more than 30 parameters
The blood analysis device from UPN Austria used in this context is proving to be particularly powerful. As a sophisticated point-of-care solution, the device delivers a rapid measurement result in just a few minutes for more than 30 parameters. These include rapid tests for metabolism (vitamin D or iron), for inflammation (sepsis or thyroid), for infectious diseases (SARS-CoV- 2 or influenza A/B), for cardiology (heart failure), for blood coagulation and for sugar levels. The test kits supplied have a long, twelve-month shelf life and can be stored at room temperature. The blood analyzer requires no service or maintenance.

Antibodies as a helpful source of information
While antibody status testing was still a niche activity before the COVID pandemic, it has now become a useful source of information. Especially with regard to the presumably necessary third booster vaccination, the determination of the individually existing antibodies is very important. Only then is there clarity as to whether a third sting is necessary at all or not. The decisive factor here is the so-called “titer” value in the blood of the individual.
