In past six months, nearly 400 forgeries of 3G proofs have been uncovered.
Starting today, police will crack down on 3G forgeries. There will be increased checks on the authenticity of 3G proofs in restaurants. The checks will be carried out by police officers together with health authorities. This was announced by Interior Minister Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) on Wednesday.
The proofs are to be controlled “lastingly”. That means that also punished, Nehammer warned of consequences from fines to imprisonment. The probability of being caught is high, he said.
Police assume high number of unreported cases
“We have detected close to 400 such forged documents in the last six months alone,” Public Security Director General Franz Ruf reported Thursday. “We have to assume that there is a high number of unreported cases.”
High penalties
Ruf spoke of eligible offenses of fraud, forgery of documents or data, and use of foreign identity documents. According to Ruf, the range of punishment is up to three years in prison. In addition, violations of the Covid regulations are possible, with fines of up to 500 euros.
