In 2021, there are finally Christmas markets in Vienna again. Here you can find the applicable Corona rules at a glance.
The anticipation is already a bit high. After a corona-related forced break last year, Vienna’s Christmas markets will finally go back into operation in 2021. This year, you can once again enjoy punch, mulled wine, baked potatoes and the like with your loved ones in a cozy, open-air Christmas atmosphere.
Which Corona rules apply to the Christmas markets?
Some open-air events have also fallen victim to the pandemic this year; the Vienna New Year’s Eve Trail, for example, will not take place again in 2021. All the more reason for the Christmas markets to become an even bigger highlight from mid-November. But what are the safety rules regarding Covid-19 this year?
The basis is the 2.5G rule (i.e. “vaccinated, recovered or PCR-tested”), which is checked at the entrances to the markets. As of today (November 3), there are no plans for a 2G or mask requirement, but this could change depending on the epidemiological situation.
Furthermore, the following preventive measures are to be observed at the Viennese Christmas markets:
There will either be a fence around the market area with an entry check, or (if there is no fence) an issue of wristbands for purchase and consumption.
In addition, there will be access controls at the food stalls, either with barriers or with the issuance of ribbons for consumption.
A fenced-off consumption area for all food stalls with access control is also currently planned.
