A general vaccination requirement is to come into force in Austria from February 1, 2022, to curb the spread of the Corona pandemic, according to a government press statement on Friday.
The common goal must be to get the unvaccinated to vaccinate instead of restricting the unvaccinated, Chancellor Schallenberg said in a press conference Friday morning. This, he said, has not been achieved despite the measures set in place over the past few months. Too many have not gotten vaccinated.
One had come to a difficult decision: A nationwide vaccination obligation from February 1, 2022. One wants to prevent thereby a fifth wave.
The vaccination obligation previously demanded by many sides (for example by the medical association) will thus actually be implemented. The head of the Styrian provincial government, Hermann Schützenhöfer, and the governor of Tyrol, Günther Platter (both from the Austrian People’s Party, ÖVP), had also spoken out in favor of this.
