20-day lockdown aims to lower infection numbers. Schools to remain open, third vaccination to be brought forward, home office recommended.

The nationwide lockdown is to apply from 0 to 24 hours and initially last 20 days. After 10 days, an evaluation will be made. This means that the lockdown will initially last until December 12 at the longest.
* For the unvaccinated, it will continue after Dec. 12.
* Students will continue to have face-to-face classes. For all school levels masks are mandatory in the buildings, children may stay at home without a medical certificate.
* The 3rd vaccination is recommended throughout Austria – regardless of the vaccine – from the 4th month respectively enabled.
* There will be a shortening of the validity of the green passport from 01.02.2022 at the latest to 7 months for the 3rd stitch.
* Home office is decidedly recommended.
A legislative procedure (including an evaluation procedure) will be initiated for the introduction of a general vaccination obligation with entry into force on February 1, 2022 at the latest – in compliance with a required constitutional deadline for operational implementation.

The initial restrictions, health Minister Wolfgang Mückstein said, are identical to those we already know in Austria. “After the general lockdown, the lockdown for the unvaccinated remains in place.” He said he understands people’s frustration, but it’s important now for everyone to pull together. “There will be a 5th wave, if we are not careful, we will have a more infectious variant,” Mückstein said.

Vienna Mayor Michael Ludwig: “Historic meeting”.
Vienna’s mayor, Michael Ludwig, spoke of a “historic meeting between the state governors and the government.” The agreement had been reached – “out of responsibility towards the population”. The aim is to prevent a fifth wave through the measures, Ludwig said. “We all know we’re not going to win any beauty prizes, but we’ll take the criticism, because it’s about saving lives.” In addition, he said, there will be further economic aid to come close to making up for the losses.

Asked about a demonstration against the Corona measures to be held in Vienna on Saturday, Ludwig said, “I ask the media to spread what science knows and to oppose the abstruse ideas. Party political bickering is not an option.”
