The fourth lockdown in Austria starts with rain. In terms of weather, fog will follow again, but also sun and foehn, forecasted the meteorologists of the Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG).

The snow line drops to 700 meters at the beginning of the week. The daily highs will reach a maximum of ten degrees in the coming week.

Start of the week foggy and cloudy
A weak cold front from the northwest will bring many dense clouds to all parts of the country at the beginning of the week. The sun will hardly show itself. The clouds will be accompanied by rain during the day, which will spread to almost all parts of the country by the evening. The snow line lies between 800 and 1,100 meters above sea level. Only in the south the precipitation will turn into snowfall above about 1,300 meters above sea level. In the night to Tuesday, it will still rain and snow locally, especially on the northern edge of the Alps. The snow line will then drop to around 700 meters above sea level. The wind will be mostly light, in the east sometimes moderate, from west to north. Early temperatures will be minus one to plus five degrees Celsius, daily highs five to ten degrees.

Snow line drops in Austria
In the area of the Alps, Tuesday will start with nightly residual clouds. Isolated snow flakes will fall up to 600 meters above sea level. Away from the mountains, in the basins and valleys there will initially be local fog and high fog, but outside the foggy areas it will already be sunny more often. Until the afternoon, sunny weather can finally prevail generally in Austria. The wind from west to north will blow at the eastern edge of the Alps and in the Vienna Basin, partly moderately. In the morning, it will be minus four to plus five degrees. Daytime highs will range from four to ten degrees, with the warmest temperatures in the west.

Calm autumn weather expected from Wednesday
High pressure influence will bring calm autumn weather on Wednesday. In the lowlands as well as in the valleys and basins, however, there will again be fog and high fog patches in the first hours. Often, however, these will clear by the afternoon at the latest. Away from the fog and generally in the mountains, the sun will shine all day from a bright blue sky. In foehn zones and in the east, moderate to brisk winds from east to south will occur. Early temperatures will be minus seven to plus one degree, daytime highs three to ten degrees, warmest at medium altitudes on the northern side of the Alps.

With the foehny southwesterly current, deep cloud fields will gradually accumulate on the southern side of the Alps on Thursday and in the afternoon it will also begin to rain or snow a little from the Silvretta to Upper Carinthia, snow line is at 1,500 meters. In the rest of Austria, fog and high fog fields persist over the lowlands. But also away from the fog zones, some high cloud fields will pass through from the south, often allowing only diffuse sunlight. In foehn zones and in the eastern lowlands, moderate to brisk southeast to south winds will blow. Early temperatures range from minus five to plus two degrees, daytime highs range from two to ten degrees, depending on fog or foehn.

It will get cooler
With the influence of disturbances, dense clouds will cover the sky on Friday and it will rain or snow frequently. With a low-pressure development over Upper Italy, it could also rain heavily, especially in the south and southeast. The snow line will drop to 500 meters in the north, in the south it will remain much higher. In the north and east, moderate westerly winds will develop. Early temperatures will reach minus one to plus three degrees, daily highs one to six degrees.
