More than 3,000 Covid-19 patients in Austrian hospitals

On the first day of the fourth lockdown since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, the number of Covid 19 patients has exceeded 3,000. On Monday, 3,054 coronavirus-infected people already had to be treated in hospitals throughout Austria. 562 of them were seriously ill in intensive care units. At the same time, the ministries reported the highest Monday value of new infections with 13,806 new cases within 24 hours.

A week ago – when the seven-day lockdown on the unvaccinated went into effect – 11,889 new infections were reported. The number of confirmed active cases rose to 152,984 now at the start of the week. Nearly two-thirds of the population – 66 percent – have valid vaccination coverage, or 5.9 million people. Since Sunday, 27 additional deaths have been reported, bringing to 12,042 the number of people who have died from coronavirus infection since the pandemic began.
