Until 12.00 o’clock today, voting ballots for the state election on Sunday can be picked up directly from the election offices. One third of those eligible to vote have already applied for voting ballots
Until 12.00 o’clock the election offices will still hand out the postal voting documents for the state parliament election if the voter himself or a person authorized by him collects them. Also the postal votes must be on Sunday to conclusion of voting at 17.00 o’clock with the district election authority.
This means that voting cards still collected on Friday should not be thrown into the mailbox. You can either fill them out immediately upon personal collection and hand them in at the polling station, bring them yourself or have them brought (or have them brought) by “messenger” to the (printed) polling station until Sunday, or have them given to another person at any polling station on Sunday.
Counting of postal votes only on Monday
By Thursday morning some 375,000 voting cards had already been issued. Due to the Corona Pandemic, the City of Vienna, but also the political parties have strongly promoted the possibility of voting outside the polling stations.
If voter turnout remains similar to 2015 (when it was almost 75 percent), this means that well over 40 percent of votes will be cast by voting card. This means that a large proportion is still missing from the results that will be announced on Sunday evening. Because the postal votes are not counted until Monday, this year it could even take until Tuesday because of the large number and the corona regulations.
Also the top candidates and the top candidate of the parties represented in the city hall have already voted with voting cards – with the exception of Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ), who will not cast his vote until Sunday in a polling station.
