The EU Commission has proposed a booster vaccination for the continued validity of the digital EU vaccination passport. After nine months at the latest, the third Corona vaccination must have taken place, otherwise the validity of the vaccination certificate will expire.
New travel recommendations expected
“We propose a validity period of nine months for the EU-wide vaccination certificate, after which it would lose its validity without proof of a booster vaccination,” Justice Commissioner Didier Reynders said Thursday in Brussels.
Booster vaccination needed after nine months for valid vaccination certificate
This period takes into account the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) guidelines on booster doses after six months and leaves an additional period of three months to give individual countries time to adjust vaccination campaigns, Reynders added.
Uniform approach among EU countries desired
With that, the Brussels-based agency presented recommendations to ensure freedom of travel in the EU and promote a unified approach among member states.
Due to the massive increase in Corona infections in some EU countries, fears of renewed travel restrictions are growing. Plans in individual member states to regulate booster vaccinations currently vary widely.
