Measures are being tightened: contact restrictions for the unvaccinated, expansion of the 2-G rule and mandatory vaccination starting in February.
The federal and state governments have agreed on far-reaching restrictions for the unvaccinated at a joint conference. Acting Chancellor Angela Merkel says after what is expected to be her last conference of minister presidents (MPK) “that the situation in our country is serious as far as the Corona pandemic is concerned.”
A general vaccination obligation could apply from February.
Clubs and discotheques are to be closed from a seven-day incidence of 350, and mandatory masks are to be introduced in schools nationwide. The 2G rule, which is already in place in some states, will be expanded nationwide and will apply regardless of incidence. Furthermore, there will be contact restrictions for the unvaccinated. In effect, this is a lockdown for the unvaccinated.
Merkel’s successor Olaf Scholz, who is to be elected chancellor in the Bundestag next Wednesday, said, “I’m glad that in this difficult situation the closing of ranks is working, that party politics is taking a back seat and the health of citizens is in the foreground of the common political endeavor – that’s how it should continue to be for the next while.”
